MonkeyBread’s review of the Hollywood Diner..

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by MonkeyBread on 27-08-2008

My mom, dad, and I, went to the Hollywood Diner on 90th and Maple for dinner last night.  We had to wait, but it just opened so we were not surprised.  They had a game room with an air hockey table, pinball machines and a few video games.  Dad said the Pac Man game was a rip off.  But there was a Terminator statue in the corner and that was pretty cool.

There is a statue of a man in a white suit right inside the front door.  Mom said it was supposed to be Al Capone.  Jake and Elwood Blues are also inside.  It looks ok inside, but kind of cheaply done (mom said that too).  But each table has it’s own jukebox and you can play 2 songs for a quarter.  That was sweet!

I had a bbq bacon burger, Dad had a jalapeno burger, Mom had a club sandwich, and we shared an order of Chili cheese fries.  The cheese part of the fries were good but the chili wasn’t.  It was full of big chunks of peppers and tomatoes and I hate tomatoes.  Mom said her sandwich was dry and Dad said his burger was a little over cooked, but nothing was terrible.

Oh!  We each had a different drink and they make the drinks themselves.  I had a vanilla coke with real vanilla and it was perfect!  Our server was nice and didn’t mess up anything and she still smiled even after the guy in the booth behind us yelled at her. We shared a brownie sundae and it was good but I wanted more hot fudge on it.

So MonkeyBred gives Hollywood Diner 3 napkins.  Food was not great but it was ok, but you have to pay $1.00 extra if you want fries with your dinner, The place looked ok but not really great.  Server was good and the jukebox was cool.

*Sigh* Jazz you MUST be kidding me!

So, a family friend say “Oh my gosh, you have to try Jazz. Its a Cajun restaurant, and you’ll love it!” Well, we went(we being The Omaha Critic, Critical Mom, and a few family friends …plus me!). I think everyone in out group could agree that it was horrible! I absolutely don’t like to say that about anything, but there’s no getting around  the fact that it was just that bad.

So now your all like “Well why was it so bad?” To start, the place smells, and not your average smell. I mean like sitting in there could cause some brain damage!

Also, our waiter, seriously…learn your to do your job! Quickly, correctly, and efficiently( Okay, so at some places quick isn’t possible)! That’s what I expect…I can forgive a mistake or two…I can understand being slow if there is limited wait staff, but seriously if you can’t figure out find a different j-o-b or work at McDonald’s. Okay, so…the waiter:

1 Mess up our drink order (he didn’t wright it down and had to ask again)

2 Messed up our appetizer order (seriously, are we THAT intimidating?) And took out dinner order.( only wrote SOME of it down)

3 Brought our appetizers like three minuets before our food (annoys the heck out of me! I’d like to actually be able to EAT my appetizers BEFORE my meal. Just me?)

4 Messed up our dinner order, not completely just mostly

5 Proceed to argue about a certain item that he had messed up! (No cool, I don’t care if your the King/Queen Of Timbuktu, if your a waitor that’s a NO,NO! The customer is ALWAYS right.[very rarely wrong and be nice when they are!] !!)

6 Asked if we wanted dessert then disappeared, came back and asked again, put in our order (again NOT writing it down)

7 Had another waiter bring us the WRONG dessert (He didn’t even tell us they had that flavor!) She got us the correct dessert ( probably a good thing!)

8 Asked if we were ready for the check; we weren’t so he just STOOD there. (Anyone else annoyed at this point?)

9 Brought us the check (We specifically asked for our check split two ways AND explained how to split it) He split it wrong.

10 It took him FOREVER to figure the right check.

11 We asked for change, he just stood there looking at us.

12 Disappeared with us sitting there waiting for change.

13 Reappeared some time later with the change.

14 We left uber ticked off.(Not cool!!!)

So you see, a lot there left to be desired! Never, EVER have I felt this horrible about eating somewhere! The only thing I found to be wonderful about all this was the Beignets( how do you spell that?) were seriously good! Actually the my food was pretty good( I had chicken Alfredo). But it was a disappointing experience…

The family friend said “I can’t believe it, they’re NEVER this bad!” She reported our service to the manager, he apologized and gave her compensation. A far amount too. Its been a few weeks since this event, but it bugged me, so I wrought this.
